Raising the profile of art in the community, on the theme of
PICTURES FOR ROOMS

Displayed throughout the town in May 2012 in 38 locality shops, concluding with an arts exhibition at the Upstairs Gallery throughout June 2012

All sales are raising funds for the May Centre, Beccles. The May centre provides invaluable work for elderly and disabled adults throughout the year, for running transport to the centre and providing activities and outings.

Roz Barnett set up her business As you like It Designs in 2010. She specialises in High Quality affordable costume jewellery and accessories. Handcrafted at her home in Diss Roz is always happy to make bespoke items for special occasions. Items are made from gemstones, glass and vintage and recycled fabrics.

Gillian Tapping

Gillian Tapping is a Fine Art Photographer and Lecturer based in East Anglia. Her work is a fusion of digital photography and traditional weaving techniques which explores the concepts of identity and complexity. Themed images are shredded and then woven back together again to create textured low relief compositions which, at first, appear as pure abstraction, only making their content known to those who are willing to ponder. Gillian has spent the last five years developing this new and unique art form which lends itself perfectly to themed projects and commissions.

Michelle Payne – Main Gallery

Michelle Payne is one of the very few lifecasters in the UK. A member of the Association of Lifecasters International, her bodycasting work is inspirational to women . Michelle also commissions wedding hands, babies hands and feet, pregnancy bellycasts, breasts and torsos. A selection of her work is available to view, alongside her paintings, which are sold to clients all over the UK, and exhibiting in some special collections (commissioned items only).

Painting a new picture of mental health

StigmARTa. Exhibition starts May 17th – 31st. A brand new perception of arts used within mental health. Sound, pictures and words that challenge the viewer to see, hear and understand the service users of mental health, and how art can impact our very lives.

WOW! OLYMPICS 2012 In 1982 Chelsea Fine art alumnus Kevin Whitney was appointed by The British Olympic Association to become the first official Olympic Artist for any country in the history of the modern olympics. He supports many charities for children, and is heavily behind the paralympics. The Upstairs Gallery are proud to announce that we will be showing the works of Kevin Whitey alongside the Olympics and Paralympics August 1st – September 8th. We are seeking sponsorship for this event, and would ask sponsors to contact Michelle Payne on 01502 717191 to help. How lovely for a small Suffolk town, with the biggest of hearts! We are also getting ready to do our new gallery information promo, which will be featured on the website and on you-tube later this year.

The Upstairs Gallery is working with Schools, partnerships, charity, health projects and is yet to be sponsored or funded. We are seeking sponsorship and funding to assist and aid many of our artists, and would really like your help with this.

The gallery owner and the volunteers here are unpaid, and work extremely hard to support students through to professional artists who need and appreciate backing in the arts and its many formats. We do not want to see, talented individuals be left by the wayside due to the worlds current clime. We would like to see artist get support and payment for their work and talents.

There are many ways to help us keep the commitment to the arts valid. Advertising costs are immense, insurance costs, even the pr licensing is of benefit. The Own-art scheme, credit card facilities, lighting, all are costs to be covered.

If you know someone who may be able to help, with grants, funding and sponsorship – we need your contacts! If they can give a little of their time, we can assist and help so many more.
