Joan studied in Bournemouth over a number of years commencing with natural history and watercolour botanical studies. Following extensive experimentation, her acrylic impressionist garden and floral work is often textured with decorative elements and more recently she has been working with acrylic ink on Lana Vanguard support.

Since moving to the Broadlands district of Norfolk in 2007 Joan has embarked on a series of sketches of local scenes, some of which have been developed and created into oil or acrylic paintings, many featuring plants and flowers. During 2011 Joan created a successful series of pen and watercolour Norfolk scenes and is currently working on a series of acrylic ink works entitled LITTLE GEMS.

Joan is a member of the:

  • North Norfolk Visual Artists Association
  • Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle
  • West Norfolk Artists Association
  • with works exhibited at their annual shows.

I studied surface painting and fashion/textile design at Great Yarmouth College of Art & Design, followed by life drawing and painting courses at Wensum Lodge, Norwich for many years.

I currently belong to the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle, and the Norwich Watercolour Circle. I also enjoy weekly portraiture groups, and paint & sketch in rural locations with the Painters ’72 group. I joined NOVA (North Norfolk Organisation for Visual Arts) in 2011. I regularly exhibit throughout Norfolk with these groups.

I draw inspiration from various sources – my own photos, sketches and collected reference material and objects. My main focus is how colours interact with each other and the effects light and shade have on the subject. Recently I have developed my style to include collage and mixed media. I feel this has added a new dimension to my work and find that there are limitless ways to progress and expand new ideas in this area.

My website and contact details are listed below.

Josephine is a British artist, currently living in Norfolk. Commissions and works are regularly sold, and she is currently furthering her career as an artist with courses in art and design.

Most recent works have been sold from The Upstairs Gallery to clients in Malta and The Netherlands.

Very popular are Josephine’s images of childhood and the sea, although her paintings are of other areas throughout travel and scenery.

This season, and late nights!/this-season-and-late-nights /this-season-and-late-nights#comments Mon, 01 Jul 2013 14:58:57 +0000 craig /?p=966 Read more …]]> We have a gallery full of delights this season. With new arts and crafts added, your newsletters should be with you, and you will be able to see the vast array of arts and crafts we have at TUG.

Coming up we have ART16 5th – 13th July for one week only in the featured main gallery. This is followed by the huge Printmakers exhibition 15th July -28th July. Then our very own Josephine Fiske will be holding her first SOLO show with us.

Find us in the very centre of Beccles, opposite Twyfords and Wetherspoons. We have so many visitors this season as Beccles is such a wonderful place to visit, and right on the tip of the southern broads.

Lifecasting works are very popular at the moment, and memorial castings are now available. This is such unique work, and we find many people have questions to ask us.

Why not drop by, we are open most days. Regular opening hours are Tues-Saturday, and we are open most Sundays and Mondays but would advise on these days that you ring before travelling.

We are also open LATE NIGHT FRIDAY for those of you that cannot get to us on regular daylight hours. Every LAST FRIDAY of the month, our very own Ryan is here to help!
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sarah is a refugee from the smoke, moving to Suffolk from London ten years ago.

As a Pilates teacher her detailed knowledge of anatomy and movement informs her figurative work: while her love of nature and gardening is expressed in her landscapes.

Experimentation is a keynote. Sarah often works with an image in many different forms to extract the essence producing surprising and arresting images in the process.

Philip Saxton, (Yorky) born 20th February 1957 in Scunthorpe the north of England. His early years were predominately filled with the sketching & painting of birds, his fascination grew due to the vibrant & textured beauty of these creatures & in essence how he could create a life like representation of these birds.

Philip moved with his parents in 1972 to the east coast of Britain a place he has called home to this very day. Philips passion would not be truly reignited until the early eighties when he started to expand his visions of art in all its forms simply by taking someone’s individual concept & through the sketching of this creations transferring these works of art onto customised motor bikes which in themselves are a work of art.

Philips body of work over the years is best described as eclectic, his love of all thing creative has lead him to take what is described as convention art into other dimensions. Fantasy & magical beings are featured heavily in Philips later works, these comprise of him utilising inanimate pieces of material or cloth & through manipulating this with an adhesive compound he creates unique, dark & gothic like fairy creatures, these include a series of masks, wall hangings & sculptures.

Nothing delights Philip more than to be challenged by someone’s creative visions & the feeling of elations he feels once the desired piece of art in whatever its form is brought to life, his commissions over the years have been anything but mundane whether it be a mural ask for by a local village to be representative of days gone by or a child’s bedroom who’s parents wish to be transformed into a wonderland of childhood desires.
His love of Photography has always featured heavily throughout his life.

“The embodiment of a single image can resonate on so many different levels in all of those who later view it”.
Philip Saxton. (Yorky)
